We usually raise the broad-breasted whites, the most sought-after turkey. We get the day-old chicks in mid-summer and raise them in the brooder house until they can be put outside. They chirp and twitter and call to each other a lot, but don’t start gobbling for a number of months. Sociable and very curious, they’re always following you around if you come into their pen. Some grow amazing fast and most often, by Thanksgiving, when we have them processed, we’ll have a few birds pushing thirty pounds…dressed. Wow! |
